Easter Message of Hope/Reflections on the 10 Commandments
Watching the 10 commandments for the umpteenth time on TV and two things struck me; 1, the first commandment that 'there shall be no gods before God (with the capital G), but God never said anything about those other gods being false or any less or any more legitimate than God itself--just don't worship them, real or not.
The other thing was when Moses was up on the mount for 40 days, waiting for the commandments and his 'chosen people' get bored and restless and decide to worship an idol, and narrator is describing them as wicked and lustful, etc. But it sure looked to these eyes that they were having a helluva lot more fun partying and raving and worshipping the 'false idol' compared to when they were wandering the desert and having to listen to Moses drone on about this and that. When they were concerned with God and Moses, zero fun, when Moses and God were hanging out, the people had a blast and more importantly--got to express their individuality (even if it was in the midst of a drunken orgy).
